Yr 2: Black History Week

We have read the story ‘Henry’s freedom box’ this week. It is a true story of a boy who was born a slave and escaped to freedom using the Underground Railroad. The children listened so respectfully to Henry’s sad tale and were so joyful when they heard that he was free at the end!

This lead us to think about our own freedom and what it means to us. In the story, Henry often looks at the trees when he thinks about freedom, so we made our own freedom tree and filled it with birds, on each bird we wrote 1 thing that is important to us about freedom. These included, having a birthday, celebrating family days, being able to get married, being allowed to go to school.

The children have been amazing this week, truly reflective and extremely respectful! Well done Year 2.
