What a fantastic afternoon we have had! After being rained off on Tuesday, we were extremely lucky with the weather today, allowing us to walk down to the allotments.
On the way we saw lots of plants growing in gardens. They were very pretty and colourful and we realised that their main purpose was for pleasure and enjoyment. Then as we came into the allotment we saw plants used for a different purpose. Most of these plants are for need, for food and eating.
We saw some beautifully tended allotments ( thank you to Patricia in the kitchen for allowing us to visit her plot in particular). The children loved looking at the variety of fruits and vegetables being grown in each plot, and talking about how they grow, and what could be done with the produce after picking. While we were looking, one plot owner showed us what she was growing and described the processes of growing plants for food. She even let us take a courgette back to school to try! Yum!
The children were impeccably behaved and were a real credit to their parents and our school. Well done boys and girls!
