Year 3

Welcome to the Year 3 class news page! My name is Mrs Law and I am the class teacher for Year 3. I have been working at Abel Smith for 3 years and feel blessed to work with such a dedicated team and such lovely children! Year 3 is the start of KS2 for our children, and we work hard to ensure all our children transition to a new key stage as smoothly as possibly.

Week 1 Kennings

Reading, exploring and writing our own Kenning poems.

Week 2 Stories with an Imaginary Setting: The Enchanted Wood

Exploring the features of descriptive language.

Learning how to use fronted adverbials.

Writing metaphors and similes.

Week 3 Using expanded noun phrases.

Writing a description of the Enchanted Wood.

Planning and writing our own stories set in an imaginary world.

Week 4 Egyptian Myths

Identifying how verbs can create an action section of a story

Inferring how a character feels

Linking ideas using a wide range of conjunctions.

Using dialogue to reveal more detail about a character

Week 5 Planning stories using the structure

Sequencing events clearly and showing how one event leads to another using appropriate conjunctions and adverbials

Week 6 Non – Chronological Reports

To summarise the main points in a text.

To make notes.

To turn notes into sentences by grouping information and adding detail

Science Plants:

Identifying and describing the functions of different parts of flowering plants.

Exploring the requirements of plants for life and growth (air, light, water, nutrients from soil, and room to grow) by investigating what plants need to grow well.

Exploring the part that flowers play in the life cycle of flowering plants, including pollination, seed formation and seed dispersal by understanding pollination and fertilisation.

Computing Animations.
Topic We are continuing our topic   ‘The Ancient Egyptians’. We will complete some map skills work towards the end of term.

Current Homework

  • English and maths homework will be sent home fortnightly
  • Times tables will be learnt during our maths lessons.
